New award for Athienou as a "Green City

For the eighth consecutive year, the Municipality of Athienou has been honored with the "Green City of Cyprus" award for two significant local projects. One award recognizes the restoration of the Municipal Market, which was transformed into a Multi-functional Cultural Center using recycled materials. The second award highlights the artistic decoration of six bus stop shelters featuring traditional Athienou lace, which is protected by UNESCO. These projects were selected in the categories of "Culture and Environment" and "Environmental Awareness - Education" by a scientific evaluation committee. The Green Flags will be officially presented by President Nikos Christodoulides during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace. These initiatives aim to upgrade the urban environment of the border municipality while promoting its unique intangible cultural heritage.
