Cyta launches digital inclusion initiatives in Cyprus

Cyta has introduced three new digital inclusion projects aimed at closing the digital divide in Cyprus. The initiatives focus on enhancing digital accessibility for individuals with disabilities, providing artificial intelligence education, and improving digital literacy for residents in rural areas, particularly the elderly. Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr. Nicodemos Damianou, addressed the launch, noting that the technology sector currently contributes between 14% and 15% to Cyprus' GDP. He highlighted that while Cyprus ranks first in Europe for the use of generative artificial intelligence tools and maintains high internet access rates among youth, basic digital skills remain a challenge. The Deputy Minister emphasized that targeted policies are necessary to ensure that technological advancements do not widen existing social disparities. Cooperation between stakeholders is identified as a critical factor in managing these digital transitions effectively. These efforts align with the broader national goal of strengthening the digital transformation of the economy.
