Deryneia-Sotira road project inaugurated in Famagusta

The new road connecting Deryneia and Sotira in the Famagusta district was officially opened to traffic following an inauguration ceremony led by Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades. The project, which faced technical challenges including poor soil conditions, features a 3.6-kilometre main road and approximately two kilometres of secondary network, though some sources cited slightly different lengths of up to four kilometres. The construction cost is reported between €13.3 million and €16 million, depending on the source. Infrastructure improvements include a cycle lane, pavements, bus stops, pedestrian crossings, raised junctions, new roundabouts, and modern lighting. Environmental measures include the construction of three retention lakes with a capacity of 40,000 cubic metres to protect the Paralimni Lake basin. Construction began between August and November 2022 and concluded in March 2026. The project was executed by a joint venture consisting of Lois Builders Ltd and Wade Adams Contracting (Cyprus) Ltd.
