Three dead in apartment fire in Lyon suburb
On Monday morning, a fire broke out in an apartment building in the eastern suburbs of Lyon, resulting in three deaths. Local authorities are currently investigating arson as a potential cause, with reports suggesting the incident may be linked to a settling of accounts between drug trafficking gangs. One victim reportedly died after falling from the seventh floor while attempting to escape the flames. The Lyon Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that 14 people were hospitalized with minor injuries or respiratory issues, and approximately 50 residents were evacuated to a local municipal gymnasium. Over 80 firefighters and 30 vehicles were deployed to extinguish the blaze. The neighborhood has recently experienced increased violence, including previous arson attempts and shooting incidents, such as an event on April 24 where a woman was wounded by a stray bullet. While authorities indicate a possible connection to criminal activity, the investigation into the specific cause of this fire remains ongoing.
