Development plan for the villages of Trozena and Gerovasa
The Environment Department is currently reviewing a spatial plan for the reconstruction of the abandoned villages of Trozena and Gerovasa in the Limassol district. The project aims to develop agritourism and ecotourism through the construction of 48 new homes and the restoration of 16 existing ruins. The total of 64 residential units, mostly featuring one bedroom, will accommodate up to 132 people using traditional stone and tile architecture. Included in the proposal is a small-scale winery with a production capacity of 40,000 bottles annually, supported by 40 tonnes of grapes and newly planted vineyards. Further amenities will include a 100-seat restaurant, offices, a wellness centre with spa and gym facilities, and camping infrastructure. The Special Ecological Assessment stipulates that development must occur on previously disturbed land within the residential core to ensure the protection of local vegetation.
