Disy presents cultural policy proposals ahead of May 24, 2026 elections
The Democratic Rally (DISY) party has outlined its cultural policy platform ahead of the upcoming legislative elections on May 24, 2026. The party emphasizes its governance record from 2013 to 2023, highlighting the establishment of the Deputy Ministry of Culture as a major institutional reform. Key projects cited include the construction of the 144 million euro Cyprus Archaeological Museum, the restoration of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, and the execution of the Pafos 2017 European Capital of Culture initiative. Regarding the current period, DISY notes its role as an opposition party, focusing on legislative proposals for the professional status of artists and increased transparency. Their proposed platform for the next five years includes twelve primary axes, such as the gradual increase of cultural funding and the expansion of cultural education. Conversely, DISY criticizes other political parties for failing to provide comprehensive plans for the arts. The party states that its focus remains on institutional stability and long-term planning for cultural development in Cyprus.
