Senator Mark Kelly reports critical depletion of U.S. munitions amid Iran conflict
Democratic Senator Mark Kelly, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, stated on Sunday that U.S. munitions stockpiles have reached alarmingly low levels. Citing Pentagon briefings, Kelly identified critical shortages in Tomahawk cruise missiles, ATACMS, SM-3 interceptors, and Patriot air defense systems. He attributed these deficits to the conflict with Iran, which he claims was initiated by President Donald Trump without a clear strategic plan or timeline. Kelly warned that the current supply levels render the United States vulnerable in the event of a protracted war. In response to these needs, the Trump administration has proposed a military budget for the 2027 fiscal year reaching approximately 1.5 trillion dollars. Kelly criticized this massive budget request as a scandal. He emphasized that the U.S. defense readiness is currently in a worse state than it would have been absent the involvement in the Iranian conflict.
