Informal ministerial meeting on housing held in Nicosia
An informal ministerial meeting on housing is taking place in Nicosia on May 11 and 12, under the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The meeting is chaired by the Minister of Interior of Cyprus, Constantinos Ioannou, and attended by the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jorgensen. European ministers responsible for housing, along with representatives from EU institutions and key sector stakeholders, are participating in the event. The discussions focus on addressing the challenges of affordable and sustainable housing amid rising costs, structural shortages, and demographic pressures across the European Union. Participants aim to foster dialogue and cooperation to create more inclusive housing systems within member states. A significant portion of the meeting is dedicated to identifying and removing administrative and regulatory hurdles that delay housing development and renovation. Specific emphasis is placed on simplifying licensing procedures and improving coordination between competent authorities.
