DISY and AKEL exchange accusations regarding potential cooperation with ELAM
Political tensions have risen in Cyprus ahead of the 2026 legislative elections following an exchange between the ruling parties. AKEL spokesperson Giorgos Koukumas accused DISY leader Annita Demetriou and DIKO representative Chrysis Pantelidis of facilitating cooperation with ELAM, alleging that this strategy aims to secure future support for the 2028 presidential elections. In response, DISY spokesperson Onoufrios Koullas rejected these claims, labeling them as misinformation and conspiracy theories designed to polarize society. Koullas argued that AKEL is attempting to create fear and distraction to avoid self-reflection regarding its own past policies, which he claims led to national bankruptcy. DISY reaffirmed its commitment to presenting modern policy solutions for society. The dispute highlights the ongoing debate regarding political alliances and ideological positioning involving ELAM within the Cypriot parliamentary landscape.
