Preparations underway for Cyprus parliamentary elections on May 24
Chief Returning Officer Elikkos Elia announced that preparations for the May 24 parliamentary elections in Cyprus are nearing completion. Ballot printing will finish by Wednesday, May 13, for all districts, with most ballots being double-sided except for those in the Larnaca district and for the Maronite religious group. Voters may now use the 'Digital Citizen' mobile application as a valid identity document at polling stations, supported by a new fraud-prevention mechanism. Additionally, a 'where do I vote' mobile app will launch by mid-week to assist voters in locating their assigned polling stations. Election officials expect to determine the seat distribution for political parties two to three hours after polls close. The final list of the 56 elected MPs should be confirmed by 1am or 2am on Monday, May 25. Voters are reminded that horizontal voting is prohibited, and marks must be made in the designated boxes, with an option to add up to five preference crosses.
