Cyprus hosts Europe Day celebrations at the EU Council in Brussels
On May 9, 2026, Cyprus organized cultural events at the Justus Lipsius building in Brussels as part of the Europe Day celebrations. The event highlighted Cyprus's presidency of the Council of the European Union, supported by the Press and Information Office and the Cyprus Handicraft Service. Activities included traditional music performances and a demonstration of Lefkara lace embroidery, which inspired the Cypriot presidency logo. Thousands of visitors from various nationalities attended the event. European Council President Antonio Costa visited the Cypriot pavilion as his first stop during his tour of the 27 member state exhibitions. He was guided by Deputy Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the EU, George Ioannidis. Discussions focused on Cypriot history, mythology, and the cultural significance of the presidency logo. The pavilion also provided information regarding Cyprus's support for Ukraine during its presidency.
