Investigation identifies missing 1974 prisoner in archival photographs
Researcher Odysseas Christou claims to have identified a missing 1974 prisoner as Makis Sergidis, based on historical photographs and witness testimonies. Sergidis was a 28-year-old reserve commando serving at post 1061 of the 211th Infantry Battalion. According to Christou and initial assessments by the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP), Sergidis was likely captured by the Turkish military in the Agios Dimitrios area after leaving his post to feed horses. Supporting evidence includes claims that Sergidis worked as a poultry farm manager in Bellapais and a photograph from July 24, 1974, purportedly showing a tractor used for burial activities. Separately, a new photograph and video footage released by MEP Costas Mavrides depict another unidentified prisoner captured alongside the individual believed to be Sergidis. Both prisoners in the footage are shown with blindfolded eyes. Christou is currently seeking further public information to identify the second prisoner and has invited witnesses to contact his project '1974 Martiries kai Tekmiria'.
