Cyprus health ministry to address high cesarean section rates

On Saturday, Cypriot Minister of Health Neofytos Charalambides addressed a conference organized by the Pancyprian Gynaecological and Obstetrical Society in Nicosia. He announced a government initiative aimed at gradually reducing the high and increasing rate of cesarean sections in the country. The Minister highlighted that the primary objective is to prioritize natural childbirth to ensure the health and well-being of both mothers and newborns. To achieve this, the Ministry has developed a National Strategy for the promotion of natural birth and the reduction of preterm births. This policy is built upon four pillars, which include strengthening health policies, improving the quality of the healthcare system, and enhancing medical training. The strategy was formulated in collaboration with scientific organizations, healthcare professionals, and patient advocacy groups.
