Pension dispute between retirement organizations and Ministry of Labor

On May 8, a meeting took place between the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas, and representatives from retirement organizations, including EKYSY-PEO, PESYS-SEK, the PASYDY Pensioners' Branch, and the Widowers' Action Committee. The discussion focused on the issue of widowers' pensions for men whose spouses died before January 1, 2018. During the meeting, the government maintained its position, citing economic costs as the primary reason for denying the inclusion of this group in the pension system. The organizations argued that these costs are temporary and should not justify what they describe as social inequality. No consensus was reached during the talks. In response to the outcome, the organizations involved have decided to hold a joint meeting with the leadership of the major labor unions PEO, SEK, and PASYDY. This follow-up session aims to evaluate the situation and determine future actions to continue their advocacy for pension equity.
