Manchester man convicted for stalking and digital impersonation
A 36-year-old man from Manchester has been convicted for stalking and harassment after using a fake online identity to target his former partner. Following their separation, the man created a fraudulent profile on a dating app using the victim's name and photos. He posed as the woman and invited various men to her home under the guise of sexual encounters. While one source alleges he solicited men to commit sexual violence, court reports indicate he misled men into believing the woman was seeking sexual engagement, leading to dangerous confrontations at her residence. The victim was unaware of the source of these unwanted visitors, causing her significant fear and distress. Police investigations identified the perpetrator by linking digital footprint data from the fake account to the location of his vehicle near the victim's home. The court proceedings also highlighted a history of controlling and obsessive behavior displayed by the man prior to their breakup.
