Cyprus electricity market association criticizes delays in energy storage projects

The Cyprus Electricity Market Association (SAH) has expressed strong dissatisfaction regarding prolonged delays in the development of energy storage infrastructure. According to the association's president, Giorgos Chrysochos, the Distribution System Operator, which falls under the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), has failed to issue connection terms for storage systems in a timely manner. These administrative delays often exceed twelve months, effectively stalling millions of euros in private investment. The association warns that these setbacks negatively impact consumers and businesses by hindering energy price reductions and preventing the efficient integration of renewable energy sources. SAH has formally raised these concerns with the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority and held discussions with the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry last March. Furthermore, the association has requested direct intervention from the President of the Republic to resolve the impasse. SAH maintains that storage is a fundamental pillar for grid stability and the country's energy transition.
