President Christodoulides announces increased funding for refugee athletic clubs
President Nikos Christodoulides attended a dinner marking the 95th anniversary of the Digenis Akritas Morphou club. During the event, he announced an increase in total government funding for refugee clubs from 1.1 million to 2.3 million euros. The specific subsidy for Digenis Akritas was raised from 145,000 to 247,000 euros. Additionally, the President announced an extra 25,000 euros in funding provided through the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA) specifically for the anniversary event. Christodoulides reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting displaced clubs as part of its ongoing policy regarding occupied territories. Separately, the President also attended an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the state's athletic school system, highlighting its role in fostering sports education. He shared details of his own past in sports, including his time as a track athlete and footballer in Paphos.
