AKEL party general secretary addresses rally ahead of parliamentary elections
On Friday night, General Secretary of the AKEL party, Stefanos Stefanou, delivered a speech during a concert at the Tassos Papadopoulos-Eleftheria Stadium. The event marked the 100th anniversary of the party and served as a mobilization effort ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for May 24. Stefanou characterized the election as a critical battle and urged supporters to vote for the sake of the society and the majority struggling with economic survival. He criticized the current state of wealth distribution in Cyprus, claiming that social crimes and corruption are being committed by a small group of the wealthy. The party aims to strengthen the social welfare state, reduce income inequality, and provide better opportunities for the youth. Stefanou also addressed left-wing voters, calling for unity to prevent the dispersion of votes to emerging political movements. The event was explicitly designed to re-engage inactive voters and consolidate the party's electoral base.
