European Commission reports on EU Migration and Asylum Pact implementation
The European Commission published a report on Friday regarding the progress of member states in implementing the Migration and Asylum Pact. Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, and Slovakia are identified as the five countries that have adopted the majority of the required national legislation. The Commission issued an executive decision classifying member states by migration pressure levels. Cyprus, Greece, Italy, and Spain are categorized as countries under migration pressure. Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, Ireland, France, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, and Finland are classified as being at risk of migration pressure. Currently, at least eleven member states have legislative drafts under parliamentary review, while others are in the final preparation stages. The Commission is providing guidance through contact committees to support national adoption efforts. Furthermore, the report emphasizes that the operation of the Eurodac central biometric database is crucial for the success of the new framework.
