Motor vehicle registrations increase in early 2026
The Statistical Service of Cyprus reported a 15.1% increase in total vehicle registrations for the period from January to April 2026, reaching 18,570 units compared to 16,133 in the same period of 2025. For the month of April 2026 specifically, total registrations rose by 22.1% to 4,733, up from 3,877 in April 2025. Saloon passenger car registrations grew by 14% to 14,259 during the four-month period, with new vehicles accounting for 33.7% (4,800 units) and used vehicles for 66.3% (9,459 units). Rental car registrations decreased by 14.8%, dropping from 1,551 to 1,321. Additionally, the market share of gasoline-powered saloon cars fell to 35.6% during the first four months of 2026, compared to 42.9% in the previous year. While reports noted a general 14% annual increase in specific sectors, the official data provides a detailed breakdown of the growth trajectory.
