Earthquake reported off the coast of Paphos

On the afternoon of May 8, 2026, a seismic event occurred in the coastal region of Cyprus. Reports regarding the magnitude and location vary, with assessments ranging from 3.2 to 3.3 on the Richter scale. The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) provided initial data, with some sources placing the epicenter approximately 8km west-southwest of Paphos at a depth of 14.6km. Other initial estimates suggested a location 18km south of Paphos at a depth of 4km. The tremor was felt in Paphos and, to a lesser extent, in Limassol. There have been no reports of damage or injuries resulting from the event. Seismological data collection remains subject to refinement by official geological authorities.
