Series of fires reported across Cyprus on May 9
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Cyprus Fire Service and the Forestry Department responded to a series of fires across the districts of Nicosia, Paphos, Limassol, and Famagusta. A notable incident involved an arson attack at 04:04 in Mammari, Nicosia, which damaged two vehicles and a residence. In the buffer zone near Aglantzia, authorities, assisted by the United Nations, extinguished a fire in crops and dry grass at 15:10. Other significant blazes occurred in Ayioi Trimithias, Deftera, Peyia, Ypsonas, Pyrgos, Ineia, and Neo Chorio. No injuries were reported, and investigations into the causes of the various incidents are ongoing. All fires were successfully brought under control by local emergency services.
