Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission marks 30 years of operations
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) celebrated its 30th anniversary during a conference in Nicosia attended by over 160 officials and European regulatory experts. President Nikos Christodoulides addressed the event, describing the commission as a guarantor of transparency and stability in the investment services sector. He emphasized that the government supports the commission's operational capacity to handle modern regulatory challenges. CySEC Chairman George Theocharides provided an overview of the agency's evolution since its establishment in 1996. He noted that the organization has grown from a small entity into a modern authority employing over 200 professionals. The leadership highlighted the commission's shift in focus to include emerging fields such as digital finance, financial technology, and crypto-assets. Additionally, Theocharides stressed the importance of promoting financial literacy and investor education. These efforts are intended to attract quality investments and enhance the international credibility of the Cypriot economy.
