Cyprus Football Association collaborates with UN to support refugee children

The Cyprus Football Association, in partnership with the UNHCR and the Asylum Service, has launched an initiative to support unaccompanied minors and refugee children. Approximately 60 children recently participated in a football training session at the Sotira Stadium in Kofinou. This program uses sports to foster social integration, communication, and trust among children residing in various reception centers across Cyprus. Sessions are led by professional coaches from the Cyprus Football Association. In addition to regular training, the organizers are planning a football tournament for June to mark World Refugee Day. This year's activities also coincide with the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention. Leslie Velez, the UNHCR Representative in Cyprus, stated that the program aims to provide these children with a sense of belonging. The initiative seeks to create a safe environment where children can develop skills and form connections.
