High-level conference on disability held in Limassol

On Thursday, Cypriot Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Klea Papaellina, and European Commissioner for Equality, Hadja Lahbib, visited a supported living residence for people with disabilities in Limassol. The visit occurred during a high-level conference on disability, hosted by the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU under the theme 'Integration of People with Disabilities: Empowerment and Support in a Society for All.' The residence is part of a project funded by the European Social Fund+ aimed at fostering independent living and community inclusion. During the conference, Commissioner Lahbib presented the European Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030. Officials from Ireland, Spain, and Malta also attended to exchange best practices regarding social inclusion and independent living. The event emphasizes the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Both officials highlighted that independent living is a fundamental right and a state priority. The conference aims to promote inclusive policies, community support services, and active participation for individuals with disabilities.
