Consumer price inflation in Cyprus linked to Middle East conflict
Marios Drousiotis, president of the Cyprus Consumer Association, has warned that ongoing Middle East instability is driving consumer price increases across Cyprus. Research from the association indicates that price hikes on 241 products across 39 categories, particularly pasta and cheese, were recorded starting April 14, 2026. Data shows that by April 30, prices in these categories had risen by more than 1%. Drousiotis noted that these increases were anticipated following the onset of the conflict, as geopolitical tensions disrupt energy transport and supply chains. He emphasized that price instability is likely to persist as long as the conflict continues without a meaningful ceasefire. While some businesses have attempted to absorb costs, the association remains cautious about whether current price levels are fully justified. The conflict has further impacted tourism, investment, and transport sectors in the region.
