Sea drone discovered near Lefkada island

Fishermen discovered a military-grade uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) in a sea cave near Cape Doukato on the island of Lefkada. The black vessel, described as a high-tech drone equipped with communication antennas and sensors, was found with its engine still running. Initial reports indicate the drone carried a significant payload of explosives, estimated between 100 and 200 kilograms, along with three detonators. After being initially towed to the port of Vassiliki, the Hellenic Coast Guard transferred the device to the industrial port of Astakos and subsequently to Elefsina for examination by the Hellenic Armed Forces and the National Intelligence Service. While authorities are investigating several scenarios, including technical malfunction, officials and analysts have suggested a potential link to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, noting that similar vessels have been used in operations against the Russian shadow fleet. Some reports identify the device as a Magura V3 model. The area was secured by military and security personnel during the neutralization of the explosives, and an official investigation remains ongoing.
