Sea drone discovered by fishermen near Lefkada
On Thursday, fishermen discovered an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) trapped in a sea cave near Cape Dukato, Lefkada. The black vessel was found with its engine still running and was subsequently towed to the port of Vasiliki by the finders. The Hellenic Coast Guard recovered the drone and handed it over to the Ministry of National Defence for investigation. Initial inspections revealed the craft is equipped with sophisticated sensors, antennas, and communication gear. While some sources describe it as an armed Ukrainian-manufactured vessel similar to those used in Black Sea military operations, authorities are officially investigating all possibilities, including a technical failure or lost communication during transit. Experts noted that such vessels can travel hundreds of kilometers and are designed for surveillance or strike missions. The potential connection to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, particularly regarding vessels targeting tankers in the region, remains a subject of official inquiry.
