Democratic Rally party outlines health policy goals ahead of May 24 elections
Seventeen days before the May 24 legislative elections, the Democratic Rally party (DISY) presented its health policy proposals under the theme 'Healthcare, GeSY, and Patients – From the Major Social Reform to the Day After 2026+'. Party representatives Miltos Miltiadous and Michalis O. Ioannidis highlighted the implementation of the General Healthcare System (GeSY) in 2019 and 2020 as a major social reform achieved during their governance between 2013 and 2023. The party platform asserts that during this period, private healthcare spending decreased, public hospitals were granted autonomy under OKYPY, and over 100 innovative drugs were integrated into the system. For the post-2026 period, DISY proposed focusing on reducing patient waiting lists, accelerating the inclusion of innovative medicines, and ensuring the full operational capacity of the National Cancer Institute. The party emphasized its role as a guarantor of the system and contrasted its proposals with those of political rivals, which it described as contradictory. The health policy presentation is part of a broader pre-election campaign that has also covered issues of defense, international alliances, and economic policy.
