Israeli man charged with religious-motivated assault of a nun in Jerusalem
On April 28, 36-year-old Yona Schreiber allegedly assaulted a French Catholic nun in the Old City of Jerusalem. Security camera footage shows the suspect, wearing a kippah, chasing, pushing, and kicking the nun, as well as attacking a bystander who attempted to intervene. The victim sustained bruises to her face and leg during the incident. The Israeli prosecutor's office has formally charged Schreiber with assault causing bodily harm motivated by religious hatred. Prosecutors have requested that the defendant remain in custody until the legal proceedings are concluded at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court. The attack has been condemned by local Christian clergy amid a reported increase in harassment against religious figures in the area. Reuters was unable to immediately reach a legal representative for the accused.
