Major flood protection project initiated in Paralimni

The Famagusta District Local Government Organization (EOA) has announced the commencement of a major flood protection project in Paralimni, aiming to address chronic stormwater management issues. The project involves the construction and upgrading of stormwater drainage infrastructure to reduce flood risks and protect local properties. The total cost of the project is €14.28 million, including VAT. Funding has been secured through the 'Thaleia 2021-2027' cohesion policy programme, with EU co-financing. EOA President Yiannis Karousos confirmed that the organization successfully increased the co-financing amount from €5.5 million to €14.3 million. Tenders for the construction contracts were published on May 6. Karousos noted that the project's development was significantly advanced during the tenure of the late mayor Theodoros Pyrillis. This initiative is considered the most significant infrastructure project currently promoted by the Famagusta district authorities.
