Dispute between ELAM and Accept LGBTI over political billboard in Strovolos
A controversy has arisen between the political party ELAM and the NGO Accept LGBTI Cyprus regarding a campaign billboard. The sign, which states opposition to same-sex marriage and child adoption, is located near seven schools in the Strovolos municipality. Stefanos Evangelidis, a legal representative for Accept LGBTI, announced that the group has reported the billboard to the Commissioner for the Protection of Children's Rights and the Strovolos Municipality, citing concerns over the impact on children aged 7 to 18. In response, ELAM press office head Marios Pelekanos defended the placement of the poster. Pelekanos stated that the party refuses to be silenced and argued that removing the sign would constitute an infringement on freedom of expression. He further contended that the party is protecting the traditional family structure and expressed that their supporters also have rights. Both parties currently await formal feedback from the relevant authorities regarding the request to intervene.
