Supreme Court grants Certiorari regarding search warrant for lawyer Nikos Kliridis
The Supreme Court of Cyprus has granted an application for a Certiorari order concerning a search warrant previously issued against lawyer Nikos Kliridis. The warrant had authorized an eight-hour search of his home and office on Holy Saturday, triggered by testimonies from a woman referred to as "Sandy." Kliridis characterized the police actions as illegal and unacceptable, arguing that the investigation lacked reasonable cause. He alleged that the authorities attempted to fish for evidence rather than conduct a proper inquiry. A primary point of his criticism is the failure of the police to secure the mobile phone of the witness "Sandy," which he identifies as critical evidence. Kliridis further questioned the effectiveness of police procedures, specifically criticizing the practice of allowing suspects to voluntarily hand over devices. He maintained that authorities should have targeted the involved parties directly instead of those who brought information to light.
