Funeral held for 21-year-old murder victim in Crete

On Tuesday, May 5, 21-year-old Nikitas Gemistos was fatally shot in Ammoudara, Heraklion. The perpetrator, 54-year-old Kostas Parasiris, allegedly fired six shots in public before surrendering to the police. The motive for the shooting was identified as revenge, as the suspect believed the victim was responsible for his own son's death in a prior road accident. The funeral for Gemistos took place at 12:00 at the Saint Kyriaki Church in Chonos, Mylopotamos. During the service, tensions arose as the victim's relatives demanded that police forces present in the area withdraw from the village. The family expressed anger, questioning the absence of protection prior to the incident. Authorities ultimately complied with the family's request and relocated the police units outside the village to prevent further conflict.
