Adamos Efstathiou criticizes political use of Omonia football club symbols

Following the celebrations for Omonia FC winning the championship, Adamos Efstathiou, head of Omonia 29th May, publicly criticized the display of socialist and communist symbols during the event. He expressed concern that historical symbols of the Left are being stripped of their ideological meaning and reduced to empty electoral props. Efstathiou targeted the AKEL party, questioning its stance regarding Omonia and the parliamentary elections. Additionally, he criticized DISY, comparing the participation of its officials in APOEL celebrations to the actions taken at Omonia events. He argued that both major political parties are using football clubs for political and electoral gain. To emphasize his point, he shared a link to a song by Vasilis Papakonstantinou reflecting his dissatisfaction with the trend. He maintains that Omonia has historically been a pillar for the working class rather than a mere football team. His critique focuses on the commercialization and political exploitation of the club's identity.
