Leaders of the two communities in Cyprus meet for confidence-building measures
President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman are scheduled to meet at 16:00 at the residence of UN Special Representative Colin Stewart (noted as Hasim Djan in some local reports) in the UN buffer zone of the Nicosia airport. This meeting follows their previous private session held on April 6. The primary objectives are to announce new confidence-building measures (CBMs) and to advance discussions on restarting formal negotiations under the Guterres initiative. Negotiators Menelaos Menelaou and Mehmet Dana held preparatory talks on the preceding Monday. While progress has been reported on low-level policy issues, the Greek Cypriot side emphasizes that the ultimate goal remains the resumption of substantive settlement negotiations. Both leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to the UN Secretary-General's engagement in the Cyprus issue. The meeting will be held behind closed doors without media access.
