Italy acquires robotic dogs for police operations

The Italian police have officially acquired six robotic dogs to assist in various law enforcement tasks. The technology was showcased at the 29th European Police Congress held in Berlin. These robots are designed to support explosive ordnance disposal units by examining suspicious items, opening doors, and moving objects in restricted environments. Each unit is equipped with a 360-degree camera and a specialized mechanical arm. The robots are manufactured by a United States-based company, with a reported unit cost of $400,000. These machines are already operational within specialized Italian police divisions, marking an advancement in the use of autonomous technology for security efforts. The devices are capable of precise movement and are intended to reduce risks to human officers during dangerous missions.
