Turkey and the self-proclaimed TRNC discuss economic cooperation goals for 2030

A meeting was held in the OSTIM industrial zone in Ankara to discuss economic cooperation between Turkey and the self-proclaimed Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Olgun Amcaoglu, the Minister of Economy and Energy of the TRNC, outlined a development strategy targeting the year 2030. Key objectives include increasing hotel capacity from 32,000 to 50,000 beds and attracting 4 million tourists annually. Furthermore, officials aim to grow annual exports from $160 million to $1 billion by 2030. Husnu Dilemre, a general director at the Turkish Ministry of Trade, stated that Ankara is committed to helping the TRNC overcome international economic isolation. While Turkish officials and local leaders framed these initiatives as vital for survival and development, they acknowledged the ongoing challenges posed by international embargoes. Other participants, including Turkay Deniz of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and Hikmet Eren of the EkoAvrasya Foundation, emphasized the necessity of strong economic ties with Turkey to ensure future stability.
