Development plans proposed for the abandoned village of Trozena
A company with Israeli interests, led by Uriel Curtis, has submitted applications to the Limassol District Organization of Local Government (EOA) for the development of the abandoned village of Trozena. The proposed project includes the construction of 60 housing units, a campsite, and a winery. Uriel Curtis, who has resided in Cyprus for many years, reported acquiring 17 of the village's 30 houses and over 150 stremmas of land since 2021. The Limassol EOA president, Yiannis Tsouloftas, confirmed that the applications are currently under review and no permits have been issued to date. Authorities are consulting with the Department of Environment because the area is designated as a Natura 2000 site. Tsouloftas emphasized that any future development must be low-impact and preserve the historical character of the village, which has been abandoned since the 1990s and lacks basic infrastructure like electricity and water. While the investor claims the village remains open to the public, the project has sparked local controversy and social media debate regarding the ownership and future of the site.
