Paphos court sentences 51-year-old man to seven years for rape and assault
A 51-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years in prison by the Paphos Criminal Court following his conviction for rape, sexual harassment, and assault causing grievous bodily harm. The crimes occurred in February 2025 at a hotel in Paphos, where the defendant and his estranged wife were residing. The couple, who share two children, had been living in separate accommodations before the wife moved into the husband's hotel room on February 7, 2025, to be closer to their children. During the incident on February 8, the defendant accused his wife of infidelity, verbally abused her, and subsequently raped her. Following the assault, the defendant physically struck the victim on the head when she verbally resisted him. The victim reported the attack to the hotel management, who then contacted the police. The court imposed a harsher sentence due to the defendant's initial denial of the charges, which forced the victim to testify in court. A panel of three judges presided over the case and delivered the final ruling.
