Infant dies after choking incident on Aegina island

On May 5, a 21-month-old girl died after choking on a piece of tsoureki bread on the island of Aegina. The child's mother brought her to the local Health Center at approximately 19:40 local time. Medical staff attempted to follow standard choking protocols, but the toddler's condition deteriorated into respiratory distress and subsequent cardiopulmonary arrest. The child was initially transported via a Coast Guard vessel and later by an ambulance to the Tzaneio General Hospital in Piraeus. Despite resuscitation efforts at the hospital, the child could not be saved. The local police department has initiated a preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
