Registered unemployment increases in April 2026

Data released by the Statistical Service on Wednesday shows a rise in unemployment during April 2026. The number of registered unemployed persons stood at 8,962 at the end of the month based on office records. However, seasonally adjusted data indicates a total of 10,585 unemployed individuals for April 2026, compared to 10,316 in March 2026. This represents an annual increase of 10.4%, or 844 more people, compared to April 2025. The rise is primarily attributed to job losses in several key economic sectors. These sectors include accommodation and food service activities, administrative and support activities, transport, and professional, scientific, and technical activities.
