Candidacies filed for May 24 parliamentary elections in Paphos and Limassol

On Wednesday, authorities in the Paphos and Limassol electoral districts finalized the submission process for the upcoming May 24 parliamentary elections. In Paphos, 67 candidacies were submitted across 16 party lists and two independent candidates, with 74.5% of candidates being men and 25.4% women. Returning officer Efrossyni Georgiou announced that objections to these candidacies can be filed until 12:30 on Thursday. Separately, the Limassol district reported a record 167 submissions from 17 party lists and three independent candidates, consisting of 71.9% men and 28.1% women. According to a recent poll by Kathimerini, DISY leads at 20.4%, followed by AKEL at 18.5% and ELAM at 12.6%. The polling data also indicates potential historical lows for DIKO and EDEK, while the Ecologists face a risk of losing parliamentary representation for the first time since 1996. The Direct Democracy Cyprus party, led by Fidias Panayiotou, is projected to receive 5.7%, and Volt is polling at 4.2%.
