Candidates register for Cyprus parliamentary elections
A total of 753 candidates have filed for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Cyprus to compete for 56 seats in the House of Representatives. Registration took place across six districts: Nicosia (261 candidates), Limassol (167), Famagusta (141), Larnaca (76), Paphos (67), and Kyrenia (41). The seats are distributed as follows: 19 in Nicosia, 12 in Limassol, 11 in Famagusta, 6 in Larnaca, 5 in Paphos, and 3 in Kyrenia. The Paphos district gained one seat at the expense of the Nicosia district due to changes in its voting population. The parliament, originally composed of 50 members under the 1960 constitution, was adjusted to 56 members in 1985 following the doctrine of necessity. Candidates represent between 16 and 18 different political parties depending on the district. All registrations required in-person attendance at designated locations across the island.
