Medical expert testifies in Diego Maradona death trial

During the trial of the medical team responsible for Diego Maradona, forensic pathologist Dr. Federico Corasaniti testified via video conference. He stated that autopsy results showed signs of prolonged agony, specifically citing blood clots between heart chambers. Dr. Corasaniti also identified ascites, or fluid accumulation, in the abdominal cavity, noting this condition develops over a significant period. Maradona died on November 25, 2020, at age 60 from cardiorespiratory failure and pulmonary edema. He was found alone in a rented home in Tigre, near Buenos Aires, where he was recovering from surgery. The prosecution argues his death was preceded by hours of suffering due to inadequate care. Defense attorneys for some of the accused have contested the timeline and duration of this alleged agony.
