State Health Services Organization investigates nurse conduct complaint
The State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) in Cyprus has removed a nurse from clinical duties pending an investigation into a complaint filed by the family of an elderly patient. The family alleges that the patient, who was lucid upon admission to the state hospital, was subjected to inappropriate behavior and procedures that endangered her health. According to the family, hospital staff contacted them in the middle of the night, demanding their presence and claiming they had a legal right to make the family supervise the patient. The complaint further asserts that the patient was found in a state of delirium and distress despite having no prior injuries. OKYPY has confirmed the nurse's reassignment to a position with limited patient contact and stated that staff are receiving daily evaluations. The organization emphasized that it provides quality care and follows strict ethical protocols, promising to assign responsibility where failures are found. The family also reported the matter to the Patient Rights Observatory of the Federation of Cyprus Patients' Associations.
