CPC Rethink Filters Ltd receives six-year license for cigarette filter waste management

On May 4, 2026, the Cypriot Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, granted a six-year license to CPC Rethink Filters Ltd. This authorization allows the company to operate a collective system for the management of cigarette filters in accordance with the 2024 waste management regulations (K.D.P. 53/2024). The company is now an approved entity responsible for managing cigarette butt waste to mitigate environmental damage. The initiative targets pollution in urban areas, natural landscapes, and marine ecosystems caused by discarded filters. The operational plan includes launching public awareness campaigns to promote responsible disposal practices among citizens. Additionally, the company will collaborate with local authorities to install specialized collection infrastructure in outdoor public spaces. Green Dot Cyprus announced the licensing on Tuesday, highlighting that cigarette waste is a significant source of pollution.
