Partial disclosure of evidence in Nicosia Central Prisons document case
During a session at the Nicosia Criminal Court on Tuesday, the prosecution disclosed 1,116 documents out of a total of 2,900 previously withheld items related to the Central Prisons case. Prosecutor Anna Matthaiou stated that the remaining 1,784 documents, currently stored on three electronic disks, were classified as sensitive, containing architectural plans, maps, and privileged attorney-client communications. The defense counsel for Anna Aristotelous, Christos Triantafyllides, objected to the classification, arguing that the prosecution must prove these documents qualify as exceptions under Article 7(4) of the Criminal Procedure Law, which concerns national security and public interest. The court established a procedure for the defense to inspect the remaining documents at police headquarters in the presence of investigators. Defense lawyers and their clients are permitted to attend these inspections and take notes. The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 9, 2026, for further arguments regarding the case.
