Makarios Drousiotis criticizes anti-corruption authority findings and police conduct
Journalist Makarios Drousiotis has publicly challenged a report issued by the Independent Authority Against Corruption, which effectively cleared officials of allegations made in his book, 'Mafia State'. Drousiotis argued that the massive investigative effort, involving 3,000 pages of evidence and 150 witnesses, was excessive if the ultimate goal was merely to label him a slanderer. He suggested that the documentation compiled actually points to criminal liability for multiple individuals. Furthermore, he linked the authority's findings to the ongoing 'Santi' case, alleging that the police are leaking claims to the media that the evidence in the Santi files is fabricated. Drousiotis questioned the potential conflict between the pending police report on the Santi case and the Authority's conclusions. Additionally, he criticized Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis, noting that an officer recommended for prosecution in 2023 for covering up a traffic incident was subsequently promoted to Assistant Police Chief in 2025. Drousiotis characterized this appointment as a result of external 'instructions from above'.
