Conference on European life sciences policy to be held in Nicosia

The Cyprus Association of Research and Development Pharmaceutical Companies (KEFEA) and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) are organizing a conference titled 'Unlocking Europe’s Life Science Potential: A Policy Agenda for Competitiveness, Innovation and Patient Access.' The event will take place on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Landmark Hotel in Nicosia. Held under the auspices of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the conference aims to address European competitiveness, innovation, and patient access to healthcare services. Key topics include biotechnology opportunities for member states, specifically focusing on the prospects for smaller nations and benefits for healthcare systems. Scheduled speakers include European Commissioner for Health Olivér Várhelyi, Cypriot Minister of Health Neofytos Charalambidis, and Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Michalis Damianou. The program features panels with health and biotechnology experts from Cyprus and abroad. KEFEA President Kyriakos Mikellis emphasized the need for a favorable European environment to support innovation and biotechnology.
